Photo: Marco Melander The Mayor of Sodankylä, Lapland, Finland, had the idea of re-using throw-away reindeer horns, and a formula for making superior quality bone china was developed. In deciding on what product might be suitable for such a state-of-the-art ceramic material Lindfors was commissioned to come up with an idea for a drinking cup. Having studied the culture of Finnish Lapland, Lindfors decided to use the traditional wooden hand-carved “Kuxa" as the starting point for his design. "Modji" is Saamish (Lapland language) for "lap". Lindfors' partner in 3-D modeling prior to the prototype process was Mika Ihanus. A numbered series of one hundred cups were fabricated. The funding for this "research and development project" only included the producing of a prototype, and no agreement for industrial production by any brand or manufactaurer has been signed as of yet.
