Story behind the product
Story behind the product
In 1987 Ingo Maurer came to Helsinki to do a show of his lamp design, and by coincidence he spotted a student work of mine; and adjustable table lamp. He wanted to produce my lamp even though it certainly wasn’t designed for industrial production. A man of his word as he was, he introduced my lamp at the “Euroluche” dept. of Salone del Mobile, the furniture fair in Milan, Italy, in September 1988. We called the lamp “Scaragoo”.
Almost 25 years later we decided to make an industrial version of “Scaragoo”, and I spent a week at Ingo Maurer GmbH in Münich, Germany, working on the new lamp. We gave him the name “Scaraboy”. But “Scaraboy” wasn’t ready for next year’s launch calendar, and Ingo said “Take him home and produce the lamp yourself...” He was truly sad about the bad timing. I took the prototype back to Helsinki, where “Scaraboy” found a good spot in my living room.
All these years this first prototype has given me light, as well as wonderful memories of my friend Ingo. When I made the decision to open stefanlindfors.shop, I found it natural to launch our webshop with the all new and finalized “Scaraboy” – as an homage to my very dear friend Ingo Maurer, RIP.
