Photo: Marco Melander Lindfors was commissioned to create a permanent sculpture installation for the new Head Quarters of the Finnish Association of the Physically Disabled. The building in Helsinki was designed by Architect Hannu Jaakkola. Lindfors named the three sculptures of his “Invalidi Trilogy" for "Siipi" (Wing), "Valas" (Whale) and "Papu" (Bean), and the works symbolize continuing life in the skies, the oceans, and on earth. "Wing" and "Whale" are suspended on the exterior façade of the building towards the main street, and "Bean" is ceiling-suspended in the main entrance lobby. "Wing" & "Whale" are welded and powder-coated round stock, each measuring approx. 4 X 6 X 2 meters (13 X 20 X 7 feet), and "Bean" is welded round stock, transparent fiberglass and light fixtures, measuring 5 X 1 X 1 meters (17 X 3 X 3 feet). The President of Finland, Ms. Tarja Halonen opened the new Head Quarters in May 2008, Lindfors' sculpture unveiling being part of the ceremony....
