RADAR II
Outdoor sculpture. City of Mariehamn, Finland. Stefan Lindfors 1996. Photo: Riitta Jokiranta, Marco Melander
The City of Mariehamn commissioned Lindfors to make a permanent “landmark" for one of the harbor areas of his native home town, the city of Mariehamn, the Aaland Islands, Finland. Welded, rusted and lacquered steel round stock and heavy steel plates. A strong light source sunk into the concrete base inside the hollow sculpture makes "Radar II" a "light house" for boats approaching the harbour and aslo for people passing by on land during the dark winter months. Length: 11 meters (37 feet), height 3 meters (10 feet). Diameter of the round concrete base approx. 20 meters (67 feet).”
