Located in the center of Turku by the “Aura” river, Symbiosis was commissioned in honour of saving the sea surrounding the Finnish archipelago (part of the Baltic) with the purpose of collecting funds for cleaning the waters. In essence: Citizens, companies, institutions, etc. can purchase name plates of the same acid steel material as the surface of the “original sculpure”. These plates come in various sizes and values, starting at €250, while the most expensive company plates are worth €5000. Several times a year Lindfors personally arrives to attach recently purchased name plates to his monument, thus creating a “second skin” of plates to Symbiosis. By spring 2020 some 1200 plates had been attached to the sculpture, bringing approx. € 450,000 so far. The project continues, bringing more name plates & funds to the monument until the entire sculpture is covered. Some 1500 people & institutions have participated by Fall 2024.
